MedCare HMS replaces a hospital's paper trail with one system: patient intake, lab results, pharmacy stock, appointment scheduling, and billing all live in a single, role-based platform used across departments.
Five departments — reception, laboratory, pharmacy, doctors, and billing — each needed different views of the same patient record, with strict access control and an audit log that could withstand a compliance review.
We built a role-based access layer on top of a shared patient record schema in PostgreSQL, with a Next.js frontend that renders department-specific workspaces from the same underlying data, and a Laravel API enforcing permissions at the field level.
What the platform does
Screens
How we got there
Discovery
Shadowed hospital staff across four departments to map real workflows, not assumed ones.
Data modeling
Designed a single patient-record schema that could serve every department without duplication.
Build
Shipped department workspaces incrementally, starting with reception and billing.
Rollout
Ran a parallel pilot alongside the paper system before full cutover.
Cut average patient check-in time from 14 minutes to under 4
Eliminated duplicate lab orders caused by disconnected paper records
Gave billing a same-day reconciliation view for the first time
“Every department was used to its own paper process. This is the first system that actually fit how we work instead of forcing us to change everything at once.”
